Write Click-Worthy Email Subject Lines

Your subject line is your prime real estate. Here are 5 sure-fire ways to get readers to open your emails.

To pique the interest of readers, you should be asking yourself these questions when coming up with the perfect subject line…

  1. What value are you offering?

Tell your readers what you can provide that others can’t. If you’re not solving a problem or making life easier for them then you won’t inspire them to click on your email.

  2. Is it personalized?

Who doesn’t like to feel special and important? Taking the time to personalize the email (automatically) can prove to the reader that your email is relevant to them. When it’s relevant, it’s worth checking out.

  3. Are you making them curious?

An element of curiosity can provide that extra push for some to click and increase your open rate. If your product or service can be marketed in a way that shocks, then go for it.

  4. How long is your subject line?

Typically subject lines should fall in between 50 to 60 characters. There are a lot of companies that go beyond that and it’s ok to make it lengthy if you’re loading up on perks and value. Other than that, shorter headlines win.

  5. Is it emotional?

People focus too much on keywords. It’s emotions that make us take action. If you speak to their emotions, it’s enough to get them to open and keywords will be pointless in the email subject line. Emotional headlines have been proven to get more social shares by Coschedule.

Don’t overthink or overcomplicate it. These are not rules that are used all at once in every subject line. Choose accordingly and master them to increase open rates and decrease unsubscribe rates, and creating a more loyal subscriber base.
